The 16-18-hour DC Conceal Carry training course is designed for citizens that meet the criteria to wear, carry or transport a firearm in the District of Columbia. The class is sixteen (16) hours of classroom instruction on DC specific laws on self-defense and two (2) hours of range practice for an initial application.

Curriculum will consist of state firearm laws, home firearm safety, handgun mechanisms and operation.

The DC 40 Hour Special Police Officer Firearms course is designed to teach officers firearm safety and proper use.  The class is thirty-two (32) hours of classroom instruction, eight (8) hours of range practice and qualification and the curriculum will consist of safety principals regarding firearms, handling of service weapons, use of force, firearms nomenclature, fundamentals of marksmanship, weapon malfunctions and other related topics.

The DC 40 Hour Unarmed Special Police Officer course is designed to provide pre-assignment training to unarmed special police officers. The class is forty (40) hours of classroom instruction and the curriculum will consist of laws of arrest, search and seizure, use of force, Authority, Jurisdiction, first aid, and other related topics.

A written exam will be administered to assess level of classroom comprehension and students must meet the minimum of 80% accuracy to pass the course.

The MD 16 Hour Handgun permit course is designed for armed security personnel (security guards, private detectives, and armored car guards/drivers) to meet the requirements by Maryland State Police to carry a firearm in Maryland in connection with their employment.  The class is fourteen (14) hours of classroom instruction and two (2) hours of range practice and qualification for an initial application.  There are six (6) hours of classroom instruction and two (2) hours of range practice and qualification for a renewal application. Curriculum will consist of state firearm law, home firearm safety, handgun mechanisms and operation.

Students will be required to pass a firearms qualification and must meet the minimum of 70% accuracy to pass the course.

Items needed for the course are as follows: a positive attitude, notepad to take notes, a firearm (bring personal or rental available), and a minimum of fifty (50) rounds of ammunition.

This certification is a hands-on course which trains participants in operational use of the Monadnock tactical baton. This course also covers any straight baton to include the ASP baton. The program is simple to learn and easy to understand. The techniques were designed to work effectively for all officers. The program provides carrying and drawing procedures, as well as striking techniques. These tactics are quickly learned, easily practiced and readily maintained long after the program is completed.

Handcuffs are among the most often used tool by officers, yet training is severely lacking. Handcuff studies show that over 67% of resistance by subjects occurs after the first handcuff has been applied.  All too often the result is injury and/or death to either the officer or the subject. This program teaches officers how to safely and successfully apply handcuffs on compliant and non-compliant subjects.

The Oleoresin Capiscum (OC) Spray Certification provides officers with information on the physiological effects, the use and the after use of OC. The course will present principals, skills and techniques of understanding and using OC control violent and aggressive behavior; reduce personal injury to officers, subjects, and the general public; increase an officer’s confidence in physically threatening situations; and reduce the exposure of civil liability of the officer and the employer for unnecessary or improper force used to control violent and aggressive subjects.

President George W. Bush signed H.R. 218, The Law Enforcement Officer’s Safety Act of 2004, which exempts qualified active and retired law enforcement officers from state laws that prohibit the carrying of concealed firearms. The Metropolitan Police Department Security Officers Management Branch has implemented a re-qualification course for retired Metropolitan Police and Law Enforcement Officers. This is a mandatory course that must be taken in compliance with H.R. 218.

Students will be required to pass a firearms qualification and must meet the minimum of 80% accuracy to pass the course.

Items needed for the course are as follows: the firearm and holster that you wish to use and carry concealed and ammunition (a minimum of 52 rounds).

Items needed for the course are as follows: a positive attitude, notepad to take notes, a firearm (bring personal or rental available), conceal holster, and a minimum of fifty (50) rounds of ammunition.

NOTE

A person may not purchase, rent, or receive a handgun after October 1, 2013 unless they possess a valid Handgun Qualification License (HQL) issued by the Maryland State Police or qualify for exemption status.

The MD 4 Hour Firearm Safety course is designed for Maryland residents that desire to purchase a firearm for home protection.  The class is four (4) hours of classroom instruction and the curriculum will consist of state firearm law, home firearm safety, handgun mechanisms and operation and handling demonstration.

Items needed for the course are as follows: a positive attitude, notepad to take notes, a firearm (bring personal or rental available), and a minimum of fifty (25) rounds of ammunition.

This course is designed for a beginner student looking to familiarize themselves with shotguns. During this course, you will learn the bare essentials of properly handling, firearm safety rules, pump action parts and operation, transporting, storing and shooting a shotgun, how to choose correct ammunition, shooting fundamentals, common mistakes, range specific rules, and other related topics.

At the completion of the course, the student will be evaluated by the instructor on their safe use, handling, and proficiency of the shotgun.

Items needed for the course are as follows: a positive attitude, notepad to take notes, a 12-gauge pump shotgun (must bring personal- rentals are not available) and a minimum of twenty-five (25) birdshot shotgun shells.

NOTE

This course is designed for the beginner student looking to familiarize themselves with shotguns. During this course, you will learn the bare essentials of properly handling, firearm safety rules, pump action parts and operation, semiauto parts and operation, transporting, storing and shooting a shotgun, how to choose correct ammunition, shooting fundamentals, common mistakes, range specific rules, etc. Students will fire the following: 12 GA pump and semi-auto shotguns.

This is a refresher course required every three years to maintain eligibility as a Protective Security Officer working on a government contract. Officers will receive refresher training and updated information based on the Security Manual and Resource Tool (SMART Book). This course only covers the SMART book portion of training. If contract requirements must be met in other areas, those courses must be taken as well to maintain eligibility.

A written exam will be administered to assess level of classroom comprehension and students must meet the minimum of 80% accuracy to pass the course.

This course offers the Security Manual and Resource Tool (SMART Book) and hands-on requirement for Protective Service Officers working on a government contract. Students will learn a range of topics including:  requirements for working on government contracts, ethics and professionalism, communications, federal law, authority to detain, use of force, search/seizure, patrolling, report writing, response procedures, records and report forms, access control, handling special situations like Code ADAM, terrorism, natural disasters, civil disturbances, hostage situations and sabotage/espionage, etc. The student will also receive certified training in defensive tactics, expandable baton, handcuffing, OC spray, and First Aid/CPR/AED.

PREREQUISITE

Must be a current supervisor or moving into a supervisor position.

This is required training for all individuals in supervisory positions on government contracts. Supervisors or candidates will learn the duties and responsibilities of a supervisor on a government contract along with the contract requirements. Different methods and theories of supervision and how to be an effective leader will be covered in the course. Additionally, supervisors will learn about scheduling for a government contract, communication, discipline, and motivating their employees.

This course is a weapons requirement for Protective Service Officers working on government contracts. Students will learn firearms maintenance, safety and handling, and become familiar with weapons they are to be assigned on contract and the A-9 ICE Qualification Course.

This course is an eight (8) hour weapons refresher course required for Protective Service Officers working on government contracts that fail their semi-annual qualification. This course is a mandatory requirement prior to attempting to re-qualify on the A-9 ICE Qualification Course.  Students will continue to demonstrate firearms safety, basic marksmanship and the step-by-step techniques for shooting the A-9 ICE Qualification Course.
